First Week In Seattle
May 10, 2008
I moved out to Seattle at the beginning of the month to work for Amazon.com for four months. I've lived in Ontario my entire life and I haven't done a whole lot of traveling so this was a great opportunity. This was the first time I had ever traveled on an airplane, except for a couple of flights I took in a small plane to tour around over Waterloo and I once went on the Canadian Airlines Timmy Tammy charity flight to Niagara Falls a long time ago. I took an Air Canada flight over and everything was great except that their personal video system malfunctioned and was shut down for the second half of the flight.
My first couple of days in Seattle I just toured around the downtown area to see what I could find. Notable places I ran into included the Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, and the World Trade Center (where hundreds of people were outside protesting against Bush).
I'm living at the M Street Apartments on 910 8th Avenue. It is located right in the downtown Seattle area and there is a grocery store right downstairs. It is conveniently located close to pretty much everything.
The best deals in town are happy hour and the price of beer. Happy hour is not just cheep beer, but also cheap food. I went to one place and got a cheeseburger and fries for $1.95 and a plate of wings for $1.95, it was great. Beer is both cheap and available anywhere, including the grocery store downstairs. The first week I was here Corona was on sale for $11.98 for a 12-pack (the same thing in Ontario is $22.95).Jason Smith
